I've had co-workers who bought into the "push" gifts by their wives, but it was absolutely no surprise - these guys had all their toys, the wives had theirs, and buying a "push" gift was "expected" by everyone in their social circle. And the guy who had to buy the biggest gift ($2000 sapphire and diamond bracelet, as I recall) (had to buying in his mind) did so because his wife didn't push at all, she had a C-section and he felt he needed to make it up to her! Obviously, we don't hang out with these families!

I'm sending you all best wishes for an easy, quick and timely delivery! Can't wait to hear about the new baby.
Regarding labor gifts--when I was in labor with my first (23 years ago), my husband brought me a single red rose. He put it in a test tube because there was no other source of water. I still have the rose (pressed and dried) and the test tube, and they mean more to mean than any expensive jewelry ever could!

But ... see, that sounds perfectly reasonable! The article I was reading was talking about things like rings and jewelry in the 1000-1500 dollar range. I'm always on the lookout for "consumerism creep" like the addition of "Sweetest Day" on top of Valentine's Day, and the slow upping of the "rule of thumb" for how much an engagement ring "should" cost, etc. And this has that distinct smell to me. Heh.

Thanks for all the encouragement! [And, no, nothing yet. It's nervewracking.]

Good luck with your little one-hope they make an appearance soon.

Actually, my dh gave me a charm braclet (the old fasioned link kind) when I had DD and then shortly after had a girl charm engraved with her initials. Then when DS was born he bought me a charm to commemorate that as well. (these were the shilloettes (sp?) of a girls head and a boys head).

Good luck with the birth! I hope it goes smoothly and well. (I would say easily, but labor doesn't sound very easy!)
